How long do chicken eggs take to hatch?
Twenty-one days at about 37.5 °C in a forced-air incubator. The calculator counts forward from the day you set the eggs and also marks the candling days and the lockdown on day 18 when you stop turning and raise the humidity.
How long do other eggs take?
Most ducks take 28 days, Muscovy ducks about 35, turkeys and guinea fowl around 27–28, geese about 28–32, and Coturnix quail just 17–18. Pick the species and the calculator uses the right length.
What is lockdown?
The last few days before hatch, when you stop turning the eggs, raise the humidity and leave the incubator closed so the chicks can position and pip. For chicken eggs that is day 18 to 21.
When should I candle the eggs?
Candling around day 7 shows which eggs are developing, and a second candle near the end removes clears and dead-in-shell before lockdown so they do not spoil the hatch. The calculator dates both for you.
Why did my eggs not hatch on the exact day?
A cool or hot incubator shifts the hatch by a day or two — too cold is late, too hot is early. Steady temperature and humidity, and fresh, well-stored fertile eggs, give the tightest hatch window.
