Bulk Day-Old Chicks in Ghana: How the Price Works at Halaal Farms

A bulk order from Halaal Farms starts at one box of 50 day-old Ross 308 or Cobb 500 chicks, from GH₵ 20 each, or GH₵ 1,000 a box. Bigger orders are where the price conversation gets real, and we confirm your exact price in writing before you pay. Send your order by WhatsApp or phone, and the chicks leave our hatchery the day they hatch.

What a bulk order means at our hatchery

When a Ghanaian farmer says bulk, they usually mean one of two things. Either they want a full house of broilers filled in one go, or they are a small group putting several orders together so the price comes down for everyone. Both are welcome here. A box of 50 is our minimum, so a bulk order is any order that runs to many boxes at once, usually 500 chicks or more. That is the size where the price is worth talking about.

Our hatchery sits at Opeikuma in Kasoa, Central Region. Chicks are hatched here and vaccinated here before they leave, so a big order is not a pile of stock waiting in a store. It is a planned hatch. Tell us the date you need the birds and we work backwards from that date. Read our starting prices before you call, so you walk into the quote already knowing the numbers.

The starting price ladder, box by box

Here is what a Ross 308 or Cobb 500 order looks like at the starting price. These are starting figures. Your final figure is written into your quote, and that is the number you pay against.

ChicksBoxes of 50Starting price, Ross 308 or Cobb 500
501GH₵ 1,000
1002GH₵ 2,000
2505GH₵ 5,000
50010GH₵ 10,000
1,00020GH₵ 20,000

The chick price is only one line of the cost. Your real money also goes on feed, housing, and the chicks you lose to rough handling. Run the numbers through our day-old chicks cost calculator before you settle on how many houses to fill.

Where the better price really comes from

Buyers ask for a percentage off in writing, and we understand why. We will not print a discount chart on this page, because the price is set per order. What moves it is the size of the order, the breed, the date you want the chicks, and how far the chicks travel to you. A thousand chicks for one date is a different job from 100 chicks spread over three weeks, and the quote reflects that difference.

What you can count on is this. Every bulk quote starts from the starting prices shown above, and any adjustment is written into your quote before you pay. If a number on the quote does not match what we agreed on the phone, you have the paper to point to.

Ross 308 or Cobb 500 for a large run

Both are imported broiler chicks at the same starting price, GH₵ 20 each or GH₵ 1,000 a box of 50. The choice comes down to what your grower knows and what your buyers want at market. Ross 308 is widely used across Ghana, so the feed advice and local experience you can find tends to line up with it. Cobb 500 is a strong alternative with its own following. You can compare the two on our breeds page, and we will give you honest notes on either when you ask.

For a bulk run, do not mix breeds in one house unless you have a plan for it. Mixed birds grow at different rates and reach different weights, which makes the sale at the end of the cycle harder to manage.

How to request a quote for 500 or 1,000 chicks

A good quote request takes two minutes to write and saves a week of back and forth. Send us a WhatsApp message or call. Include the five things below and we will reply with a written quote.

  1. The breed, and how many chicks, counted in boxes of 50.
  2. The date you want the chicks, or the week you want them to arrive.
  3. Your town or village, so we can quote the delivery cost.
  4. How many houses you are filling and how many birds go into each.
  5. Your preferred way to pay: mobile money, bank transfer, or cash.

Keep the message short and specific. A message that says "I want 1,000 chicks, how much" gets a list of questions back. A message with the breed, the number, the date and the town gets a full quote the same day we can work on it.

Paying for a bulk order without the guesswork

We take mobile money, bank transfer, or cash. We do not take online card payment, so please do not look for a card option on the website because it is not there. Payment is made against the written quote. The delivery cost is quoted in writing before you pay too, so you will never meet a delivery charge at the door that you did not agree to.

For a larger order, a bank transfer leaves a clean record for your own books. Mobile money is quick for a single box or a small top-up. Cash works if you are collecting at the hatchery in Opeikuma, where farm visits are by appointment.

Getting 1,000 chicks to your farm in good shape

Chicks are dispatched on the day they hatch. That matters more for a bulk order than for a single box, because a long wait in a crate eats into the yolk reserve the chicks carry. Chicks can travel about 48 hours on that yolk, which gives a normal road journey room to work. The sooner they are in a warm brooder with clean water and feed, though, the better they start.

Tell us your delivery window before the hatch, and ask the driver which route they will take and when they expect to reach you. Our delivery page explains how we move chicks across the country. For towns outside the Central Region, the delivery guide covers the practical side.

Plan your order dates

Pick the day you want chicks in your brooder. We'll show when to book and when the birds should be ready.

The vaccine programme and the batch record

Every chick is vaccinated at the hatchery against Marek's disease, Newcastle disease, Gumboro (IBD), infectious bronchitis, and coccidiosis. A batch record comes with the order. Keep that record safe. Your vet or any future buyer may ask for it, and it gives your own flock health plan a clear starting point.

If you want to lay out the timing of your own follow-up work, the vaccination schedule calculator helps you put the dates on a calendar. Your vet still decides what your flock needs, so use the calculator as a planning aid and not as a prescription.

    If chicks arrive dead

It happens rarely when handling is done properly, but a bulk order is many boxes, so it is worth knowing the rule before it matters. A chick found dead when the crate opens is replaced free in the next hatch. Take a clear count when the crate is opened, note the number of dead birds, and message us the same day with that count and a photo of the crate. Do not throw the dead chicks away before you have shown us, because the count is how we sort out the replacement.

On a 1,000-chick order, a single count across all 20 boxes is quicker than checking each box separately. Count with the driver at the drop-off point while everyone is still standing there.

Who usually places a bulk order

Bulk orders usually come from one of three kinds of buyer. The first is a farmer filling one large house for a single cycle. The second is a group of farmers who put their boxes on one order so the delivery is shared. The third is a poultry business running several houses on a rolling plan, because a steady batch every few weeks keeps the houses full. Each of these buyers asks for the same three things: a clear price, a firm date, and a batch record they can show later.

If you are a smaller keeper, a bulk order can still make sense when you pool with neighbours. Read our page on wholesale day-old chicks for the terms that apply to larger buyers, and the page on ordering a thousand day-old chicks if your plan is one big house.

Common mistakes with a bulk order

Most problems with a bulk order are paperwork problems that show up late. These are the ones we see most often in the talk about big orders.

    • Ordering on a price heard over the phone and never seen in writing.
    • Booking the date before the house is clean, dry, and warm enough to receive chicks.
    • Leaving the delivery cost open until the driver is already at the gate.
    • Not counting the chicks against the quote when the crate is opened.
    • Mixing breeds in one house without a clear plan for feed and sale weight.

Most of these come down to paper. Get the quote, the date and the delivery cost in writing, and keep the batch record with your farm files. That protects both sides of the order.

Planning the house before the chicks arrive

A big order needs a big plan. Work out how many birds each house holds, how much feed you will need, and what it costs to keep them for the whole cycle. Our broiler profit calculator gives a rough picture of the margin, and the poultry feed calculator helps you estimate the feed bill. Treat both as planning tools, not promises. Real results depend on your feed, your house, the weather, and how well the birds are looked after.

Brood the house a day or two before the chicks come. Warm it, set the lamps, and fill the drinkers with clean water, so the birds find everything ready when they step off the crate. The poultry calculators hub has the full set of free tools if you want to test a few scenarios before you commit.

    Questions farmers ask

Is there a bulk discount on day-old chicks in Ghana?

Bigger orders are where we talk about a better rate, but we do not print a fixed percentage. Every bulk order gets a written quote built from our starting prices, which are GH₵ 20 a chick for Ross 308 and Cobb 500. Ask for that quote before you decide.

What is the minimum for a bulk order?

One box of 50 chicks is our minimum, so a bulk order is any order made up of several boxes. Most buyers planning a bulk run look at 500 or 1,000 chicks, which is 10 or 20 boxes.

How much is 1,000 day-old chicks?

At the starting price, 1,000 Ross 308 or Cobb 500 chicks come to GH₵ 20,000, or 20 boxes at GH₵ 1,000 each. Your exact figure is the one in your written quote, and delivery is quoted separately before you pay.

Can I pay by mobile money for a bulk order?

Yes. We take mobile money, bank transfer, or cash. We do not take online card payment. Pay against the written quote and keep your payment confirmation with the batch record.

What happens if some chicks die on arrival?

A chick found dead when the crate opens is replaced free in the next hatch. Count the chicks when the crate is opened and message us the same day with the number of dead birds and a photo of the crate.

Do you deliver a bulk order outside Kasoa?

Yes. We deliver to all 16 regions. Chicks leave the day they hatch, and the delivery cost is quoted in writing before you pay, so the price for your town is clear from the start.

Should I buy Ross 308 or Cobb 500 for a large run?

Both are imported broiler breeds at the same starting price. Choose based on what your grower knows and what your buyers want. Do not mix the two in one house without a clear plan for feed and sale weight.

How do I ask for a quote for 500 chicks?

Send the breed, the number of boxes, the date, your town and your payment method by WhatsApp or phone. A message with those five points gets a written quote back, and you can ask us anything else after that.
